Sorry, we got off topic arguing about a confusing statement about judging the compatibility of coolant by whether its older or newer.īut, yes a bad radiator cap can cause that volume of coolant to leak, especially in park. Why, because people kept calling and asking if their universal anti-freeze has the exact same ingredient lists as their GM Dexcool list, including the ingredient 2EHA, which only Dexcool uses, is their universal antifreeze for all makes and models that mixes with any color antifreeze really just GM Dexcool which the manufacturer recommends against using, and has been know to cause serious problems if mixed with other types of anti-freeze? They removed the ingredients from the label, and instead used the NJ Trade Secrets Act, to list some secret reference number. Prestone has been sued and lost about their claim their anti-freeze was for all makes and models, mixes with any color anti-freeze, the court found they could not substantiate their claims, not to mention from all evidence if its not exactly GM Dexcool, its a minor variation of it. Maybe a few others, but most don't even tell you what type of anti-freeze is in the jug, and like Prestone, its likely the worst version of OAT, GM Dexcool. The aftermarket for antifreeze has gone nuts, Zerex is trustworthy, they actually tell you what is in the Jug. So if you're going to try something different, you really need to fully drain and flush your system. OAT doesn't mix well with anything, including many other OATs. HOAT mixes with IAT (the original green) very well, but if you mix them, you have to change fluid at the much shorter IAT interval. I use it and never have a problem, and usually its cheaper than the Dealer supplied HOAT. ![]() Likely because there are lot more Fords using it than Chrysler/Mercedes. Zerex G-05 is the aftermarket equivalent of Mopar/Mercedes/Ford HOAT, but its dyed the Ford Amber. The original green IAT used to go from translucent green to an opaque green as it neared the end of its life. As the Mopar HOAT coolant gets older and starts to wear out/break down/collecting solids in it, it tends to turn more orange. So if the part number digits are the same, using AC instead of the previous AB should be just fine.Ĭhrysler/Mercedes HOAT is dyed red, but depending on the light and background reflecting through the translucent coolant, it can look pink or orange. ![]() Perhaps there is a situation where that is not always true, but I have yet to see one. ![]() Same part number with an increased letter suffix is the same part just improved in some way.
